Home Remedies and Herbs for Acne Scar

What is Acne Scar?

Acne scars are a type of skin damaged caused when the skin tries to repair itself after inflammation caused by acne. As the skin heals itself, it forms new collagen fibers to strengthen the skin and add flexibility. When the skin doesn’t repair back to its original state, it can leave small dents or bumps called acne scars.1,2

Some people with severe acne develop patches of acne scars on their face. Some acne scars heal on their own over time, while others begin to appear more prominently with age.1

What Causes Acne Scars?

Acne scars causes are due to inflamed acne on the face or elsewhere on the body. When inflammatory acne persists long-term, the skin doesn’t have a chance to fully heal. With frequent and repeated acne outbreaks, the skin becomes increasingly more inflamed.1,2

When lesions, pustules or cysts become inflamed, then they can burst the follicle wall. If this is a deep rupture, then the bacteria contained in the acne lesion can infect and damage the skin. The skin will try to repair the follicle wall. However, if the damage is too severe, it will result in an acne scar.1,2

There is a direct relation between the severity of acne inflammation and the increased probability that scars will develop.
