Home Remedies and Herbs for Cervical Cancer

What is Cervical Cancer?

Cervical cancer is a form of cancer that starts in the cervix, which is the passage at the lower end of the uterus that connects the womb to a woman’s vagina. There are two main types of cervical cancer. The first is squamous cell carcinoma, which is cancer that begins in the flat cells that line the cervix. The other is adenocarcinoma, which is cancer that begins in the cervical cells that produce fluids.1

What Causes Cervical cancer?

Most cases of cervical cancer are caused by strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a sexually transmitted disease. Most women’s immune systems are able to combat the virus when infected; however, the virus is able to survive for many years in other women. When it survives, it can cause some cervical cells to become cancerous.2 There are two strains of the HPV virus—HPV 16 and HPV 18—that are known to cause 70% of all cervical cancer cases.3

Since the cause is well known, it’s fairly easy to prevent cervical cancer by receiving the HPV vaccine, using condoms during sex, and getting a Pap test and HPV test done regularly to spot abnormalities before cancer forms. Women under 50 should be screened every three years; those 50 to 64 should be screened every five years; and those 65 or older do not need screening unless by doctor recommendation.3 Even if a woman develops cervical cancer after taking these precautions, it is still fairly easy to treat with the help of a doctor and cervical cancer alternative therapies.

Cervical Cancer Symptoms

At the beginning, cervical cancer may not result in any symptoms, and experiencing symptoms of cervical cancer does not necessarily mean you have it.3 However, the following symptoms may indicate a woman has cervical cancer:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding, usually occurring after sex, between periods, or after menopause.
  • Pain during intercourse.
  • Pelvic pain.
  • Vaginal discharge with a foul odor.4

Cervical Cancer Natural Options and Alternative Treatments

Since cervical cancer is easy to test for, it is also easy to treat if discovered in the early stages. In addition to surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy, women may also turn to cervical cancer home remedies to help treat their symptoms and condition.5 Some cervical cancer herbal remedies to consider include:

  • Green Tea – Green tea is an antibiotic, anticarcinogen, and antioxidant, which helps prevent cancer or slow its spread. Brew an 8 ounce cup of tea up to three times per day to enjoy the benefits of this cervical cancer herbs supplements option.
  • Curcumin – Curcumin contains anti-cancer compounds to help fight cervical cancer. Take it as a pill, or drink a teaspoon dissolved in an 8 ounce glass of warm water.
  • Turmeric – Turmeric is another herbal remedy similar to curcumin. It also contains anti-cancer compounds and is best taken as a pill or in diluted in water.

Conclusion

Cancer is a scary word, but cervical cancer is actually fairly easy to diagnose and treat. When caught in the early stages, it is highly treatable, and most women experience long survival and good quality of life after diagnosis.
