Home Remedies and Herbs for Joint Pain

What is Joint Pain?

Joint pain is a general term for discomfort in any part of the body’s muscular-skeletal connections. Discomfort can range from mild and sporadic to chronic and so severe that it immobilizes a person. Pain can emerge from any part of the joints including bone, cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments.1

Joint pain causes are usually brought on by inflammation from inside the joint which can be called bursitis, arthritis or arthralgia. Acute joint pain might be from an injury or evolving condition. Chronic joint pain is usually from a degenerative disease like osteoarthritis that commonly occurs in aging people. 2,3

Joint pain is classified into two types; single-joint pain and many-joint pain. Knees are the most common single-joint source of pain and often result from an injury. Having pain in multiple joints is symptomatic of a more progressive condition like rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus or even an untreated viral infection. 3

What Causes Joint Pain

Joint pain causes include either injury or advancing conditions. Some of the most common diseases or conditions leading to joint pain symptoms are:

  • Lupus

Joint pain causes also include common injuries like sprains, twists, fractures and dislocations. Excessive weight, over exercising and repetitive motions can also result in single or multiple joint pain. 2,3

Joint Pain Symptoms

Joint pain symptoms range in severity. Mild joint pain will present as redness and swelling around the affected joint that will be tender to the touch and cause discomfort with use. Joint pain caused by injury is usually much more noticeable and may include joint pain symptoms like sudden and rapid swelling, joint deformity, inability to use the joint and often intense pain to the touch or with motion. 1
