What is Alum?

Alum is a group of hydrated minerals but generally refers to potassium alum. Alum is an inorganic salt comprised of transparent crystals used in food and product additives as a neutralizing agent.1

Alum Health Uses and Health Benefits

Alum health benefits come from its natural astringent properties, making it most commonly used as a topical treatment for constricting blood vessels. In holistic medicine, alum is prescribed for healing ulcers and lesions, particularly in the mouth. Alum powder can be used and applied topically to conditions like canker cores and cold sores. It can also be used to treat topical fungal infections like warts, ringworm and athlete’s foot.1,2
