What is Rapadura?

Rapadura is the unrefined version of cane sugar which has a caramel taste that is naturally held by the cane sugar. Rapadura sugar can be used as a substitute for refined white sugar and other sweeteners. Rapadura sugar is beneficial as a sweetening substitute because it is less processed than standard sugar.1

Because rapadura sugar is less refined than white sugar, it preserves its higher content of nutrients. Rapadura sugar is high in minerals like potassium, calcium and magnesium, which is good for preventing muscle cramps. Because of its high mineral content, rapadura sugar can be taken to help restore lost electrolytes from dehydration and diarrhea. The iron content in rapadura sugar is also beneficial for treating iron deficiency (anemia).1
